Alliston is the largest of the three communities that make up the Town of New Tecumseth, alongside Tottenham and Beeton, and it is the one most people mean when they say they are looking in this area. It has a proper main street, the Boyne River running through it, and the Honda of Canada Manufacturing plant on its edge — an employer big enough that it shapes the local housing market on its own, which is unusual for a town this size and is why demand here does not simply track the Toronto commute the way it does further south. Because Alliston is a community rather than a municipality, the market figures on this page are compiled for the Town of New Tecumseth as a whole, which is how the real estate board files them — Alliston, Tottenham and Beeton together. Statistics Canada counted 43,948 residents in New Tecumseth in the 2021 Census; its separate Alliston population centre, which covers the built-up part of Alliston only, recorded 23,253.
